The Constitution of the Federation of British Bonsai Societies

During 2005 an enormous amount of work was carried out to update the Federations constitution. This was the first update since the inauguration of FoBBS in 1981 and has modernise the way the Federation is governed so that is typical of a modern 21st century organisation. In brief the purposes of the changes are as follows:

  • Align the governance of the Federation with current legal practices for 'Limited by Guarantee' status.
  • Provide a greater flexibility to those wishing to become members; you will be able to join as an individual, as a commercial member as well as a branch society.
  • Provide a greater degree of financial protection to societies and their members.
  • Standardise accounting procedures across the Federation and its member societies.
  • Provide a disciplinary process.

Full details of the Constitution and the rationale behind it can be found here

FoBBS Insurance 2007

One of the major services we provide is public liability insurance to both our Society and Commercial members. Most venues demand that users have this type of insurance and visiting speakers also need to know that club venues are covered.

When comparing FoBBS arranged insurance against similar products please check that the policy covers club shows as well as club meetings and that the use of power tools are included particularly for carving demonstrations.

The period for Membership and Insurance cover will run concurrently so that both can be renewed simultaneously at the beginning of the Membership year.

Toward the end of 2006 we were given to believe that we had a favourable insurance premium to offer the Membership.  However, in spite of negotiations, which had commenced in January 06 and continued through to September, the premiums offered proved to be less than satisfactory.  This was a big disappointment and as a consequence we were delayed in sending out reminders.

I am now pleased to say that subsequent discussions have led to a more positive outlook and we now believe that we will have a much improved offer although there was a delay in sending out membership renewals at the end of 2006. This has now been resolved and the updated renewal form is available on this page.
