Capel Manor Autumn Show:
Sunday, 13th October 2012

Despite some atrocious weather, the autumn event which has now become a regular feature of the British bonsai calendar proved very successful with some thirty magnificent trees and shohin compositions on display. Two awards were given, one for the Best Composition, John Armitage being the winner with one of his shohin compositions whilst the award for Best Tree in Show went to Ian Stewardson for his chuhin Juniperus chinensis. In addition there was several well-presented society displays together with a busy trade area which catered for just about everyone’s tastes and requirements.

Graham Potter of Kaizen Bonsai was the demonstrator for the day, working on a sizable yamadori Scots pine, observed by an attentive audience throughout.

The final of this years’ Amateur New Talent Contest also took place during the event, with three contestants participating. All worked on very similar Chinese junipers and after three hours work, it fell to the judges John Armitage and Reg Bolton to determine the winner, not the easiest of tasks In the end, Mark Kennerley of the Wirral Bonsai Society was declared the winner with José Redondo of the Maidstone Bonsai Society a very close second. Mark will now go on to represent the U.K. at the European Final to be held in Wroclaw, Poland this coming May, 2014 for which he will receive financial support from FoBBS. We must thank everyone who has helped over the year, all the competitors from the heats and wish Mark all the best for 2014.

A well-presented and equally well organised event; our thanks and appreciation to all those members of the Bonsai Group involved for putting on, once again, a most enjoyable show.
